Welcome to the Lagrangian Sensor Systems Laboratory (LSSL) at the University of California, Berkeley. Our laboratory is dedicated to the study, design, prototyping and deployment of mobile networked agents. Our main applications include

  • Lagrangian sensing for shallow water flows
  • Probe vehicles highway network systems
  • Air Traffic Control.

Our activities are focused on the development and the implementation of control, optimization and estimation algorithms for multiple agent systems, in particular:

  • Data assimilation for distributed systems
  • Convex optimization based formulation of inverse modeling problems
  • Mixed integer linear programming based formulations of network control problems

The lab members are affiliated with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at UC Berkeley. Given our applications of interest, we have close collaborations or affiliations with institutes such as

  • CITRIS- Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society
  • CHESS- Center for Hybrid and Embedded Software Systems
  • CCIT- California Center for Innovative Transportation
  • NEXTOR- National Center Excellence for Aviation Operations Research
  • BWC- Berkeley Water Center

Our research is funded by NSF, NASA, FAA, California department of Transportation, California Bay Delta Program, University of California Transportation Center, VOLVO Foundation, Nokia, Tekkes.
